Project Pyxis: Month 18 – May 2018

Well, this was an interesting 30 days, we had even more big G updates (they’re not stopping… the new normal).

Mozcast snapshot of the month

Then there was an issue with the Yoast plugin creating extra pages for every piece of media on your WP site, which in turn tanked rankings of a LOT of sites it seems. So much so that they had to release an extra plugin to purge the newly created pages and fix the situation.

Pyxis was also affected by this issue but recovered almost instantly after applying the fix. For more info about the issue, check this blog post by Charles Floate.

Overall, we had an ok ranking increase this month, but nothing stellar, earnings went up again compared to last month, but still way down compared to Feb or March. I briefly considered stopping the project as it has been going on for quite a while w/o decent returns… but then the site broke into the top 10 in 2 different countries I’m also targeting (so that makes 3 countries with top 10 rankings for its main keywords).

So this is what I’m doing going forward, I’ve partnered up with a web designer friend (who has intermediate SEO knowledge). Pyxis is now officially a JV like Project Aries. That way I can put more time into Aries and my other projects. My JV partner will mostly be working on content. We’re starting with a 35/65 split, and then depending on the milestones we hit, the balance will move towards 50/50.

To take full advantage of the extra manpower the project now has, we’ll be running a few strategies from the excellent SEO membership course “The Lab” (mainly from the Kitchen Sink section of the Affiliate Lab) <- they’re doing a flash sale atm if you want to get in – this is NOT an affiliate link btw, I don’t get anything for recommending it, the course is just that good!

First order of business will be to add another 11k words to the site, with images, videos, tables, proper interlinking etc (and then start linking to it).

I started as your average web designer, then found affiliate marketing as a biz model, and am now building my own assets on a full-time basis… I kinda like it :)
